Now, on the surface, you might not be able to tell that this is what’s going on all around you. We can be so hard on the surface; so ready to turn up our noses at a mushy, gushy, made up holiday such as this. Because duh, Valentines Day is a real cheese fest. Haters gonna hate. But one day a year, shouldn’t we as a society be able to embrace the Hallmark-spawned commercialization of love? Isn’t it kind of…sweet? Like, in a totally non-sarcastic, uncritical way, isn’t it…nice? Are we all such cynics that we can’t just look at all the chocolates, teddy bears and weird starchy plastic rose buds at face value?
Those things are all great, as is the concept of having an entire day devoted to celebrating romance. Single and attached people alike can glorify in the simple splendors — a great meal, a bubble bath, glitter lipgloss…you name it! Or you could do what I did one year: lie hungover in bed all day long with the lights off in complete rejection of the occasion. You know…whatever makes you happy.
Are you in the spirit yet? Because here at Queen of Hearts and Modern Love, we are. Oh, we really are. We’re PUMPING IT UP this year. So let us present you with this most deluxe outfit: a real sugar rush — the equivalent of a whole paper box of candy hearts, straight to the face.
1.) The Lola Dress — a ballerina’s dream — frilly, weightless and traditional in form, with the color and fabric combination that giives it the charm of a million roses. Though it looks just darling with flats and a sparkly headband, for our Valentines Day Spectacular look, we are revvvvving it up with:
2.) These adorable heart print tights by Look by M
3.) The totally rad, totally red gel Mel Raspberry Pumps — we are so stoked about how loud these are — they ooze confidence and sex appeal.
And there you have it! The perfect candy-licious look. We’re shameless, darlings, and we hope you’ll join in on the fun.
